The expedition arrived at Mt Hope on the 1st of September and Becker painted Pyramid Hill from the top of Mount Hope. The granite boulders that made up the range looked to him like petrified whales and elephants and he observed a great range of insect life: “It was surprising to see the great number of butterflies, moths & other insects swarming around the rich blooming vegetation growing out from between the crevices of the gigantic boulders.”
