Even camels cannot survive without water. In January and February 1861, the supply party made little progresss. Here the camels are sent out in search of water, while in the distance pack horses return to their only source of water at Duroadoo.
This sketch was made while Becker remained at this camp to guard the equipment and supplies unloaded to lighten the loads. These supplies can be seen piled up in the foreground.
Becker had to remain here for three weeks in very difficult conditions and the heat, lack of water and poor food contributed to his death in April 1881.
