Sunday 15 –Thursday 17 [December 1857] "…strong gales, great speed"
Friday 18 [December 1857] "...the Southern lights show magnificent at night…Xmas day, here we are at anchor in Hobson’s Bay inside Port Phillip."
Saturday 26th Dec.  "... Expressed appreciation to the Captain for the voyage - Liverpool 23rd September 1857 to Melbourne 25th December 1857
27 Dec ..”made up my mind to try the diggings.”
Heading for Castlemaine. Friend -Fred, ill with dysentery in camp, while John starts digging for gold.
Last entry in diary- Digging continues, hole collapses into an older dig. Fred’s condition deteriorating.

Education Museum Victoria: Station Pier
These resources focus on the history of immigration to Australia, and the role of Melbourne’s Station Pier as the arrival point for many of Victoria’s migrants. They relate to the Station Pier: gateway to a new life exhibition at the Immigration Museum. The kit consists of excursion resources and additional resources. These activities support the VELS standards. They are designed for years 5-7 and 7-8.
