Length of blue and yellow fabric - Zemgale Region, Latvia
Anna Apinis is a Latvian weaver who came to Australia in 1950. She made this fabric for her daughter as part of a Latvian national costume when her daughter finished Latvian high school in Sydney. It is indicative of the patterns of the Zemgale region from which Anna comes. It was woven on a traditional countermarch draw-loom using 17 shafts. The loom was constructed in Memmingen, Germany in the Displaced Persons Camp in 1948.
