Coral Knowles' Wedding Gown was donated to the Brighton Historical Society in 2003 and belonged to the Brighton socialite Coral Knowles who was married in 1966. It is made of wool lace and was entered in the Gown of the Year by the Australian Wool Board.
The Brighton Historical Society holds an astonishing array of clothing and accessories dating from the early 1800’s through to the 1980’s. Collections highlights include a Jane Austen period patterned cotton dress, through to dresses worn at the court of Queen Victoria, on the Victorian goldfields and Edwardian tea dresses. Hand-beaded flapper gowns, items of clothing covering both wars and the decades which follow; the fifties, the swinging sixties right through to the the padded 1980’s shoulders, are also included in the collection. The Brighton Historical Society is the custodian of over 1,000 items of clothing and accessories including nightwear, bathing costumes, shoes, hats, fans, undergarments and shawls.
