The Dimboola Printing Museum houses an extensive and diverse collection of vintage presses, related machines and tools-of-trade, including this large Payne & Sons Wharfedale cylinder press.
Well over a century old, the heavy, belt-driven Payne & Sons Wharfdale cylinder printing press was installed in the building that is now the Dimboola Printing Museum in 1929 and has been operating ever since.
The press prints four tabloid newspaper pages at a time from type-set plates on a flat bed, pulling paper through a heavy roller to a drying frame on the far side of the machine.
Operation of the Wharfedale cylinder press is not a job for the faint-hearted!
