The Viewbank homestead foundation was made of stone but the main walls were made of clay bricks, hand-made locally. Each had a thumb print imprinted, presumably of the brick maker. Fireplaces were made of the local brick, although some were found with imported Italian marble fireplace surrounds and mantles.
