Proposed Tea House, 1913
Purnell designed this ‘Tea House’ for J.P. Wallace of East Malvern. The single-storey timber building had a verandah on three sides, a ‘Public Room’, a ‘Ladies Room’, a kitchen, a servery, a pantry, two bedrooms and a bathroom. It also had a corrugated iron Chinese-style roof with gently upward sweeping lines. Unfortunately the teahouse was never built, however over the next few years Purnell designed a number of buildings with Chinese-style roofs.
