Julia Sargood sits in the centre of the family outside the thatched tennis pavilion at Rippon Lea in about 1885 with her daughter Charlotte on her knee. The Sargoods loved outdoor activities, and their lawn tennis court was one of the first built in the colony. There were tennis parties for young people every second Sunday, followed by a light meal and a dance.
