In the centre are the Prefect of the Somme (Monsieur Emery) and the Agent-General for Victoria (Hon. J. McWhae). Mr Frank Tate, (Victoria's Director of Education) is on Mr. McWhae's left, and the Mayor of Villers-Bretonneux (Monsieur Vandeville) on the Prefect's right.
This photograph is one of a series that depicts the laying of the foundation stone at Villers-Bretonneux on 16th June 1923 by the wife of the Victorian Agent-General, Mrs McWhae in the presence of Mr and Mrs Frank Tate, their daughter and others. The photo series also depicts the events of the day with the welcome to the Australians, a march through the village, and other events.
