Bright & District Historical Society
The museum covers railway history, gold mining history and also covers the social history of the area.
Bright was the centre of the Ovens River, Morses Creek and Buckland River gold fields. Alluvial, Dredging and Deep Lead mining were all carried out in this area.
A large number of Chinese miners worked in the above gold fields and the museum has a reconstructed Chinese Joss House and has a collection of artefacts from Chinese Miners. T
he railways opened up the valley but roads and cars made the railway redundant. The old railway line is now a very popular Rail Trail.
Bright has been a popular tourist destination since the early part of the Twentieth century and displays of all these developments are part of the museum.
