This section shows the main threats that the Swift Parrot faces. Each of these threats may not seem too bad on its own, but when you add them all together they can end up seriously threatening the survival of the beautiful Swift Parrot and other woodland birds.

PREDATION: Although cats may start out as pets, if they escape and live wild in the bush, they can hunt and kill many native birds, including Swift Parrots. Even pet cats often kill birds.
SOLUTION: If you have a cat keep it in at night and make sure it is well fed. Make sure your cat has been neutered so it won’t go making a whole heap of kittens that you can’t keep. If you live in or near the bush and you would like a pet, choose something that won’t kill birds.
