This map shows only the Victorian Aboriginal cultural groups most commonly mentioned in the book Meerreeng-an Here Is My Country, some of which are represented in this story. It is not a complete map of Victorian cultural groups and is not suitable for use in Native Title or other land claims. The locations of cultural groups are based on information drawn from the map Aboriginal Languages of Victoria produced in 2006 by the Victorian Aboriginal Corporation for Languages (www.vaclang.org.au).

A national map of cultural groups Aboriginal Australia is available from the Koorie Heritage Trust or direct from the publisher, the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies in Canberra (www.aiatsis.gov.au).

Alternate spellings and/or alternate names for some cultural groups have been used in this story.

The following groups mentioned in this story are not shown on the map:

Peek Wurrong: clan of the Gunditjmara

Kamilaroi: Moree/Narrabri/Gunnedah region, New South Wales

Kulin: regional grouping including Boonwurrung, Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung, Wathaurung & Wurundjeri

Mutti Mutti: Lachlan River/Murrumbidgee River region, New South Wales

Trawlwoolway: north-eastern Tasmania

Wiradjuri: Orange/Dubbo/Griffith/Wagga Wagga region, New South Wales
