Established in 1970, Craft Victoria fosters creativity, experimentation and professionalism in contemporary craft and design. The organisation enhances awareness of Australian craft and design at state, national and international levels. We present craft and design to a wide range of audiences and promote craft values through exhibitions, our retail shop and public programs. Craft Victoria provides support for established and emerging practitioners through professional development and promotional services.
Craft Victoria is the peak organisation for contemporary craft and design. Our core mission aims to bring together a vibrant and sustainable local contemporary craft community, by representing, promoting and celebrating all craft practitioners and modes of contemporary craft. Craft Victoria has three core operational streams: shop, exhibitions and events which work in tandem to generate exposure, learning and development opportunities for artists, members and the public.
Craft fosters creativity, experimentation and innovation through the presentation and curation of exhibitions, representing over 190 of Victoria’s best craft artists in our shop, and scheduled professional development and community public programs.
The shop at Craft features locally hand crafted objects spanning a broad range of styles, techniques and mediums, including jewellery, textiles, glass, ceramic and timber works. Through all our endeavours, Craft advocates for Victorian contemporary craft, to ensure our Melbourne craft artists are embraced and celebrated locally and nationally.
Craft Victoria curates and showcases Victoria's finest emerging and established pracitioners . Each year Craft curates Fresh! that presents professional craft and design practitioners and curators from over 35 departments within tertiary and TAFE institutions.
Craft also hosts biannually the Victorian Craft Awards that is open to all Victorian craft artists, presenting a survey exhibition of over one hundred contemporary craft artworks.
