Williamstown Historical Society

5 Electra Street WILLIAMSTOWN

The Museum is housed in a Trust National Building, which is currently undergoing restoration. There are many maritime objects, including models of ships and a scale model of "Gerberus". We also have early clothing, domestic articles, an historic signature quilt from World War I, which has been to Sydney on loan. We also have a sound effects machine, thousands of photographs, silverware, WWI memorabilia, family research and a bi-monthly newsletter.

Our Collection

Donations from citizens since 1956 related to Williamstown. Two maritime rooms, models made from original drawings by an engineer including local paddle steamers, visiting ships. A period dining room/library. A period bedroom plus antique costumes.

As a representative collection of Williamstown's past, emphasising position as a port and immigration and customs centre with ship building and repair and heavy industry associated with railway workshops.
