Peninsula Surf Centre
The surfshop provides displays on the history of surfboard riding, with examples of surfboards from ancient Polynesia to the current day. The displays trace the development of shape, style, design and materials. The shop also provides an extensive and interesting historical collection of windsurfing, surfskis, skateboarding and scuba diving equipment.
Surfboards dating back to the 1930s. Located on Nepean Highway at Mornington & Rye. Free admission.
A balsa/cedar laminated finless surfboard similar to the Pacific Homes California model is our most significant item. Hollow and balsa 'okanui' style boards based on those showcased by visiting US surfers in 1956 are also significant. The collection shows the surfboard design advancement from these 3 metre single finned boards to the modern three finned 1.8 metre surfboards of today.
