About the organisation
The La Trobe University Art collection was founded in 1966 before the first buildings were commenced at Bundoora, the site of La Trobe University’s major campus, some fifteen kilometres north of the Melbourne CBD. Dr Roy Simpson, AO, the University's Master Architect, emphasised that art and culture are important aspects of the 'university experience' and the University should lead the way for the wider community.
Sculptural works were incorporated in the original design of the buildings, and further commissions and purchases of works of art were made possible with funds raised through the 1976 Retirement Appeal for the inaugural Vice-Chancellor, Dr David Myers.More information about the organisation and its collection
